A good connecting piece to our puzzle is found in Col. 2:2-3 ...to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Notice that this piece has the words : hid. treasures, wisdom, and knowledge, and all of these are to be found in Christ! In Jn. 1:1 -3 we read In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. So we see that Jesus Christ and His word are the same, and in His word is hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. And His word is pure and preserved for us. We can hold this pure word today in our hands and read the very words of God. This word of God is our King James Bible. What a treasure! Pr. 2:3-5 is another good piece of the puzzle. Yea, if thou criest after knowledge. and liftest up thy voice for understanding; IF thou seekest her as silver. and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. Look at all the connections! Knowledge, hid, treasures, fear of the Lord, and a new connection - silver. Once, while in a meeting in Canada, I had my treasure stolen. We had gone to another family's home for supper. While we were gone, some thieves broke in the house that we were staying and stole several things from our host. When I looked in the bedroom where we were sleeping, at ·first I didn't notice anything missing. Then, to my distress, I discovered that my Bible was gone! It was in a nice Bible cover that must have caused the thieves to think it was a purse. I had had that Bible for over ten years and a was filled with notes and verses underlined that were special to me. Bro. Herb Noe preaches a sermon about the Bible, and has a point about "your Bible" - how God can speak to you from your own personal Bible. My heart was sick with the thought that it had been taken from me. That night I picked up another Bible that was on my night stand and flipped through it. It had a few colored pictures in it, and it opened to one of thieves holding strands of pearls and jewels that they had stolen. The verse under the picture was Mt. 6:19 - 20 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven ...That night we got down on our knees before God and prayed that somehow I could get my Bible back. This was on a Monday and our plane was to leave on Wednesday. My faith was weak that God would answer such a prayer, but the next morning the police called and said they had the house of the thieves under survailance and could see my Bible on the kitchen table. That afternoon I went to the police station and they were gracious enough to let me have it back. All of the other stolen merchandise had to be kept for evidence. I wrote on the evidence tag, redeemed, and kept it on my Bible for several years. Praise God, I got my treasure returned! What would we do without our blessed Bible? Brother Gary Duty's song, ''This Blessed Old Book" expresses it best.
This Blessed Old Book It's a well of pure water when I'm thirsty and dry, Bread when I'm hungry and worn. When the battle is raging, it's my faithful sword, My shelter in life's troubled storm. It's a light to my pathway and a lamp to my feet, When the world gets so dark you can't see. And I've not made a change in one word that it says, But it sure made a change in me.
This blessed old book that I hold in my hand, It's true from beginning to end. it's the solid foundation where I firmly stand, Sin kept me from it, now it keeps me from sin.
When I think what it cost just to hold in my hand, It reminds me that I owe a great debt, To all of the martyrs who'd gone to the stake, And quote it with their dying breath. Now its critics are many and believers are few, But one thing I've found to be true. If you find when you read it that there's something wrong, There's something wrong with you. -Gary Duty
So far we have used the key word secret which branched off to fear of the Lord, knowledge, wisdom, and to a list of jewels. Now let's use the key word riches.
