Psa. 34:7

"The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them."

What an environment to be in! The Christian is guarded on all sides. Let's notice:

God is before us to lead us; Isaiah 48:17, "Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go."

God is behind us; Isaiah 30:21, "And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left." One cannot beat the guidance that the Lord gives. We just need ears fine-tuned to Him.

God is to the right of us; Psalms 16:8, "I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved." He is there to counsel and instruct, to help, protect, and defend: the phrase is expressive of the nearness of God to us as his children, his presence is with us, and He is there ready to assist and stand by us against all our enemies.

God is to the left of us; Job 23:9, "On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:" We cannot see Him but we know He is there because the Bible says it.

God is above us; Psalms 36:7, "How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings."

God's everlasting arms are underneath us; Deuteronomy 33:27, "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them."

God the Holy Spirit is within us; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

Acts 17:28, "For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring."

God is the environment in which the believer lives. Never allow anyone to suggest that you are a long way from God. You may have broken fellowship with Him, but He is always the environment in which you live. He is on all sides, He is underneath, and He is overhead. Nothing can come to where you are without coming through Him to get to you.

An australian missionary once told a thrilling story concerning the care and faithfulness of God which he experienced while on a lonely and dangerous journey. All was safe and easy on the way out, but upon returning he had entrusted to him a large sum of money. A highway man lay in wait for him at a lonely spot, intending to rob him and leave him dead. The missionary not knowing this, yet keenly aware of the danger, he prayed and talked to God as he rode along. The robber, who heard him communing with the Lord, thought that there must be two men; as he had expected only one, he decided not to make the attack. Later the story came out, and the child of God realized that he had been prompted to pray aloud just as he reached the crisis moment in his journey. He rejoiced afresh in the truth of the Christians divine protection. Truly, "If God be for us who can be against us."

"Just when I need Him, Jesus is near,

Just when I falter, just when I fear;

Ready to help me, ready to cheer,

Just when I need Him most!"

— W. Poole

There is nothing greater than for the Christian to experience the presence of the Lord. Sometimes our faith needs spiritual eye-glasses so that we might see and know the Lord is with us. That will automatically make the glory roll and a spirit of personal revival will burst out in estatic praise. Those around will think we are crazy. That's ok! We know it is just the normal life for us as Christians!
