A Young woman named Mary, lived in the little town of Nazareth. She loved God and believed He would send the Saviour as He promised. Mary was engaged to marry Joseph, a carpenter; but they were not to be married for a while.
One day God sent an angel to Mary with a message. "Greetings, you who are highly honored. the Lord is with you," the angel said.
Mary was frightened because the angel greeted her as he did. What could he mean? the angel said, Don't be frightened Mary; for you have found favor with God. You will have a Son, and you are to name Him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Bible says;Lu 1:32-33 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Mary didn't understand what the angel said. the angel explained, "Your Baby will be God's Son. For with God nothing is impossible."
"I am the Lord's servant." Mary said. "Let it be even as you have said." She loved God and wanted to obey Him.
Then the angel appeared to Joseph in a dream. The angel explained to him that Mary was expecting a baby. Mary would be the mother of God's own Son, Jesus. The Bible says that the angel said to Joseph;Mt 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Several months later Mary and Joseph started on a journey to Bethlehem, their home town, to pay a special tax. Probably Joseph walked, leading the donkey on which Mary rode. Long ago God decided that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem. It was a tiring journey, and Mary and Joseph were glad to get to the city.
the streets and the inn were filled with people. Joseph couldn't find a room for them to rent. The innkeeper let them stay in the stable where the animals were kept. Mary rested on fresh, clean straw. There Jesus God's own Son, was born!
And that same night, far far away:
It was a starry night, and out on the hillside shepherds were watching over their sheep. As the shepherds sat around the fire, perhaps they talked of god's promise to send the Saviour. Maybe they wondered if they would see Him when He came. Suddenly a bright light appeared in the sky. the shepherds saw an angel and were terribly afraid. But the Bible tells us thata the angel said;Lu 2:10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. The shepherds listened eagerly to find out what this good news was. the angel continued,Lu 2:11-12 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. Then a great number of angels filled the air with praise to god as they said, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." The shepherds gazed with wonder at the brightness of the angels. then the bright light and angels faded from the sky.
The shepherds went to the city .. found the child.. and went back into the praising God and telling all the people, "God is faithful: He has kept His promise. The Saviour has come! We have seen Him with our own eyes!
This is why we celebrate Christmas Day. But the story didn't end in the stable. Jesus came to earth to die for us all. It is not enough to just believe that He was a babe in a manger, Jesus went on to be much more. He is the saviour of the World. Each one of us must receive the Lord Jesus as our personal Saviour.
